NatureMade VitaMelts

29 Sep

This year at Fitbloggin, I was offered an opportunity to try NatureMade Vitamelts.  The representatives had Vit C,  Energy ( B6) and Vitamin D to sample.  I have been a fan of vitamin B for years, ever since I discovered the benefits of a daily dose for me on my energy level !  It works wonders.

I was so impressed with the flavor and the packaging of the product sample that they provided, that when the representative followed up with an email asking if I would like to blog about NatureMade, I accepted.

This week, the product sample came in the mail.  The company sent me the Relax (Green Tea Mint) Vitamelts. They contain  L-Theanine which is also found in green tea and is clinically proven to relax the mind.

They are available for purchase at your local drugstores, and online at Vitacost could not have come at a better time.  I have had one heck of a time commuting to and from work this week  and having these  really helped.  It will be nice to see once the trains get back to normal, if they help me sort out all the rest of my stress!

So I am a fan.  Any other fans out there?

Reebok shoe reviews- Running and CrossFit

05 Aug

At fitbloggin, the Reebok reps were very generous and gave every particiapant a pair of crossfit shoes. I tried to love them, but my runners feets just could not get the groove of them. On Saturday of the conference, I offered them back to the rep and said that if she had any running shoes, I would be happy to buy those instead. She offered those to me in exchange. Since that day, I have been running in the ReebookOne Guide running shoe. They are pretty awesome. They have an excellent cushioning system in them that made me ditch my athletic insoles. It starts in the back, they call it cushion slide rebound and it really works.
Plus they are very cute and bright, just the way I like running shoes.
They are not available in many running stores here in NYC, but you can get them at Reebok ( of course) and at City Sports.

Now onto our second review from Chuck the Crossfit guy in the house.
The CrossFit Nano 3.0

I started CrossFit the middle of July and loved it.  I am doing the 3 times a week plan, so I end up going around every other day. When I began, I would just wear my running shoes, which are fine and do not cause a problem.  When looking around for information on CrossFit, I came across Reebok CrossFit apparel. They have CrossFit shoes.  I had to have these, so, I searched and found a store that carried them.  On my Sunday WOD (Workout of the Day), I wore them and they were amazing.  One of the exercises was doing dead lifts.  These shoes offered more support and stability, than a running shoe.

There is a great article about CrossFit and the person that started it in Inc Magazine.  It talks about the philosophy behind CrossFit, how it started and where it’s going.

Fitbloggin’13 one week to go!

19 Jun

Its crunch time here at Phyllis4fitness.  Its one week to Fitbloggin 2013  and I have to get set to travel cross country and present at a panel in front of an audience of people that I have learned so much from!   I am confident that it will be a wonderful experience but I am having to came that little devil on my shoulder that keeps shouting WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING?

The best way to manage that is to exercise and have a great time doing it!  Today was boot camp at my office and we got CRAZY competitive in there.  It was a blast.  I knew that I needed a mental advantage today because I am stressing so I broke out my Team Tough chik shirt.

Our instructor did three rounds of 10 one minute exercises using weight and the weight bar.  There were enough lunges, squats and burpees in there to warrant a nice long soak in epson salts this evening.  I love how these types of classes really challenge you to test your fitness level.

Here’s a photo after class.

What the megaphone means to me

10 Jun

When I was 13, I was in the eigth grade and that winter, i had a sledding accident that resulted in a broken right ankle.  I had dreamed of making the cheerleading squad for two years at our new high school and had been the caption of the pep squad thru junior high, I was a shoe in.  I had an amazing v sit jump and lots of team spirit.  My cast came off in April and tryouts were in May.

This was 1979 and physical therapy didnt happen for me so despite my peppy spirit and the fact that I choreographed the dance routine, I did not make the freshman squad.  My jumps were not up to it.  When I got home, My mother showed me the bracelet she had bought me with a megaphone charm at it and said, “well, I guess you don’t get this now.”

I never tried out for cheerleading again, I tried out for the drill team and made it and had a wonderful time that summer at the band camp but always wanted to be a cheerleader not because of the popularity and the fluff, but because I believed in the sport.  Years later, I had my kids involved in competition cheerleading in Northern Virginia and my daughter Pam made the Freshman squad and my daughter Laura made the varsity squad.

I have worked hard for the last two years to get well and now with the launch of phyllis4fitness I feel like I have finally earned my megaphone!

Dear blog

21 May

I am sorry I have not posted lately.  I promise to make it up to you by being a better health and wellness evangelist.

The Nike Women’s half marathon resulted in a strained IT band that required a week of crutches and two weeks of PT.

NOT FUN. But in all of that I decided to still go for it and take all the positive out of team in training and use it by being part of the Fall Season.

Here are some photos from the  Nike Women’s Half in DC.

I am in here somewhere

The race was crazy.  There were easily double the number of runners from the cherry blossom and somehow on mile ten I twisted the heck out of my knee but I still got this.

I recovered for a week using these

crutches

Physical therapy does wonders and I am lucky to be well on the way to training again.  I promised my family no half marathons till Fall.  ( I may have crossed my fingers)

Life is awesome, Fitbloggin is right around the corner and its finally warm and dry outside.

So blog, I hope we are made up now and I will be better about updating I promise!
